Carnival Cruise Line External Communications Manager in Miami, Florida

Job Description

Create, lead, and manage/work alongside team members and contractors to implement the external communications strategy for Carnival Corporation, including communications, PR and event activities and strategies that drive favorable brand awareness of and advocacy for Carnival Corporation and its nine world-class cruise line brands. Translate the company’s objectives and business priorities into external comms strategies and support them by conceiving of and producing a range of communications materials, content, and events to reach our key external stakeholders and to meet both the long- and short-term reputation management objectives of the business. Move with alacrity while producing excellent work. Collaborate with people at every level and around the world to identify and promote good news stories that present the company in a positive light and support the company’s strategic priorities.

Essential Functions:

  • STRATEGY: Actively participate in helping to define corporate global communications strategy and work autonomously to operationalize the strategy, managing/working alongside team members and contractors to effectively execute programs to reach various external stakeholders (e.g., media, shareholders, legislators, customers, communities). Activities to include (among other things): driving development of master global messaging; conceiving and leading overall comms campaigns in support of global strategy; defining the role/approach for strategic comms channels and managing strategic external comms channels; anticipating and/or quickly handling emerging issues and ad hoc projects to achieve strategic communications results.

  • STRATEGY: Conceive, shape, lead and deliver a range of communication strategies that drive brand awareness of Carnival Corporation and its brands through positive, compelling news coverage and interesting and engaging content.

  • CAMPAIGN PRODUCTION: Translate the company’s objectives and business priorities into creative external comms campaigns and programs and then proactively manage/work alongside team members and contractors to produce news releases, feature stories, scripts, web content, social media posts and more to inform, educate, engage and motivate key stakeholder audiences surrounding Carnival Corp’s overall mission and strategic priorities.

  • COLLABORATION/PRODUCTION: Professionally and proactively collaborate with nine cruise line brand comms teams to drive creation of and coordination around a company-wide editorial calendar for external news; lead cross-brand opportunities to consolidate multi-brand and enterprise-wide communications into corporate storytelling campaigns; leverage best practices across brands and ensure consistency and accuracy of corporate messaging in all communications externally.

  • NEWS COVERAGE PRODUCTION: Own responsibility for driving positive share of voice for Carnival Corp in priority news outlets; cultivate, manage, and maintain journalist and influencer relationships to advocate for the company’s best interest in all news stories; set up and lead media/blogger briefing sessions with top company executives; design, plan and manage all aspects of media tours and FAM/press trips including scheduling, producing messaging and supporting materials, escorting executives/media during all interactions, negotiate coverage resulting from media interactions, etc.

  • ISSUES MITIGATION/PRODUCTION: Work with minimal oversight to anticipate and/or proactively identify emerging issues that may adversely affect the company’s reputation and freedom to operate; move quickly to notify interested parties of emerging issues and lead efforts to help mitigate negative, inaccurate, or other misleading news stories/online buzz/public claims/stakeholder perceptions that in a day-to-day, non-crisis environment may be harmful to the company’s business goals; maintain corporate-wide crisis comms response plan and materials.

  • CORPORATE CONTENT PRODUCTION: Establish and lead the content strategy and manage all content for CarnivalCorp.com and proactively CORPORATE CONTENT PRODUCTION: Establish and lead the content strategy and manage all content for CarnivalCorp.com and proactively manage/work alongside team members and contractors to write/produce multimedia content to leverage this channel for compelling storytelling; establish an overarching corporate strategy for social media presence, and manage be fully responsible for ongoing comms via social media channels to promote Carnival Corp reputation and to build CarnivalCorp.com website traffic.

  • PROGRAM- & DEPARTMENT-SPECIFIC CONTENT PRODUCTION: Own all aspects of comms-related content development to support connected departments (e.g. government affairs, investor relations, legal, ports & destinations, etc.) to ensure consistent approach, messaging and quality control; assist connected departments by consulting/advising on content and design of reports, presentations, web pages, collateral and other materials (e.g., Sustainability Report, IR materials, trade show collateral, etc.)

  • ACCOUNTABILITY: Work independently with limited supervision to create relevant, timely, and error-free work products; help to build and manage program budgets and goals to deliver results; manage external comms agency partners on projects, timelines, budgets and measurement

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, Marketing or related

  • Required Years and Area of Professional Experience: 8+ years of professional experience, preferably in a large publicly traded B2B, B2C and/or leading global brand showing an arc of steady professional progress with decreasing supervision.

  • Critical Professional Related Technical/Computer Skills: Microsoft Suite, especially Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams & SharePoint; web application interfaces; Canva or other design software/tools

  • Other Requirements: News writing, flexible modern communication and business writing, scriptwriting, and knowledge of AP Style

  • Preferred Education: Bachelor’s or master’s Degree

  • Preferred Experience & Type: External comms experience; executive comms experience; media relations experience; website & social media production/management experience; video production experience; program leadership and management experience; agency management experience; budget management experience

  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Superior writing skills; relentless attention to detail; ability to multitask and perform under pressure; adaptability to changing priorities and workloads; ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneous by leveraging team and contractor resources to divide and conquer; autonomous work style to perform job responsibilities with limited day-to-day oversight; initiative to anticipate company communications needs and judgment to recommend appropriate strategies for addressing them; skilled at consistently producing program results on time and within budget; ability to work effectively with others and on teams; leadership skills and proven ability to lead/manage teams to successful outcomes.

Decision-Making:

  • Tactical: Decisions focus on intermediate-term issues. The purpose of decisions made at this level are to help move CCL closer to reaching strategic goals. Outcomes are predictable. After a decision is made by Top Executive Leadership, the next phase is to take the needed steps to implement it. Examples are: The amount of money required to implement, which advertising agency to promote a new service or to provide an incentive plan to employees to encourage increased revenue

  • Operational: Decisions focus on day-to-day activities within the company. Decisions made at this level help to ensure that daily activities proceed smoothly and therefore help to move the company toward reaching a strategic goal. They have short term consequences. Examples are Handling employee conflicts, purchasing materials needed for operations.

Physical Demands: Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time. Requires regular movement throughout CCL facilities.

Travel: Less than 25% with shipboard travel likely.

Work Conditions: Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.

The range for this role’s salary $75,900-$120,000. Offers to the selected candidates will be made on a fair and equitable basis, taking into account specific job-related skills and experience.
